Licensing FAQ

What is a "backup agent"?

A backup agent is a single installation of CloudDelta Backup running on one Windows server or workstation. If you run backups from multiple machines, each requires its own license. The number of agents you need depends on your document volume and backup window — not your user count. If you’re unsure, contact us and we’ll help you size it correctly.

Does it connect directly to Laserfiche Cloud?

Yes. CloudDelta Backup authenticates to your existing Laserfiche Cloud account using your standard credentials. No API keys or special Laserfiche configuration is required.

Where are the backed-up documents stored?

Locally, on the machine running CloudDelta Backup — in a folder you configure. Documents are saved in their original file format, exactly as they exist in Laserfiche, along with their Laserfiche template and field metadata. The current version of each document is backed up; version history is not included. You control where they go, including a network share or NAS. CloudDelta Backup also supports file-level encryption of backed-up documents, ensuring your records are protected at rest. Encryption settings are configured within the application.

Can I purchase through a Solutions Provider?

Yes. CloudDelta Backup is available through authorized Solutions Providers. You are also welcome to purchase directly from us — whichever works best for your organization. Contact us and we will point you in the right direction.

What is the difference between Standard and Standard+?

Standard includes scheduled automation, MFA-compatible login, file encryption, and audit trail — everything most single-agent deployments need. Standard+ adds repository reconciliation and SQL Server database support, giving compliance-sensitive organizations the full governance feature set while remaining on a single backup agent.

Which tiers include reconciliation and SQL Server support?

Repository reconciliation and SQL Server database support are available on Standard+, Professional, and Enterprise tiers. Reconciliation compares your local backup database against your live Laserfiche Cloud repository to identify gaps in either direction — showing which documents exist in Laserfiche but have never been backed up, and which backed-up documents are no longer in Laserfiche. Application-level user access controls with Admin and Read-Only roles are included on all tiers.

Can the scheduled task run unattended without someone logged in?

Yes, with one requirement: an active Windows desktop session must be present on the machine at the time the task runs. The task itself can run as SYSTEM — it does not need to run as a specific user account. For fully unattended machines such as a dedicated backup server, we recommend configuring Windows auto-logon so a desktop session is always available after a reboot. The screen can be locked immediately after login via Group Policy or a startup script — the session does not need to be unlocked for the backup to run.

What happens when my license expires?

CloudDelta Backup will notify you well before expiration. After the license lapses, the application will not run until renewed. Your previously backed-up documents are unaffected — they remain in your local folder.
